The Norwegian Elkhound Club of Great Britain was registered in 2003, following the renaming of the British Elkhound Club in that year. The BEC had been formed in 1973 by the merging of the British Elkhound Society, which was founded in 1923, and the Elkhound Club, which was founded in 1936.
The main objectives of the Club are to:
- PROMOTE and encourage the breeding of pure Norwegian Elkhounds.
- DEFINE precisely a description of the true type.
- URGE the adoption of a standard type on Breeders, Exhibitors, Judges and others as the only recognised and unvarying standard by which the breed should be judged.
- SUPPORT shows by financial guarantees, by providing or recommending judges and disseminating information.
- ADVANCE interest in the Breed at Home and Abroad

One of the best ways to find out more about the Norwegian Elkhound is to join the Norwegian Elkhound Club of GB and new Members are always welcome.
Annual Membership includes a Journal/Year Book and Magazine. A Championship Show is held in the Spring and an Open Show in the Autumn, both events usually take place in the Midlands.
